- 演題：The Sakai Project: Creating a Community Source, Internet-based, Collaboration and Learning Environment
- 講演者：Professor Joseph Hardin(School of Information, Sakai Project Board Chairman, University of Michigan)
- 概要：Online teaching and learning systems have become a critical part of university infrastructure in the last few years. At the same time, support for distributed teams of researchers, across organizational and geographical boundaries, has become a requirement for leading universities. In both of these contexts, rapid integration of innovative methods and tools into these systems has become increasingly important, as faculty experiment with new ways of teaching, and researchers demand the latest tools for collaboration with colleagues. The Sakai Project has the goal of harnessing the creative energies of the academic community to build and innovate software to meet these needs. The Sakai Project uses open source development methods to make sure the resulting software is available to all, and can integrate new components and functionality easily. The Sakai Collaboration and Learning Environment is currently in use by over 25,000 faculty and students at the University of Michigan, and in pilot at a number of other schools. This presentation will trace the history of the multi-university effort that has come together to build both the software and the community to support that software. This effort was initiated in 2004 by the University of Michigan, MIT, Indiana University and Stanford University, and the community has grown over the last year to include over 70 institutions of higher education around the world, including Nagoya University. The future of the rapidly evolving Sakai Project and community will also be discussed. The presentation will be by Joseph Hardin, faculty at the School of Information, University of Michigan, and Chairman of the Sakai Project Board.
